An Inspiring Tale

The Baker and the Farmer

A baker in a little country town bought the butter he used from a nearby farmer. One day he suspected that the bricks of butter were not full pounds, and for several days he weighed them.He was right. They were short weight, and he had the farmer arrested. At the trial the judge said to the farmer, “I presume you have scales?”

“No, your honor.”

“Then how do you manage to weigh the butter you sell?” inquired the judge.

The farmer replied, “That’s easily explained, your honor. I have balances and for a weight I use a one-pound loaf I buy from the baker.”

Moral of the story – We must be fair when dealing with others in the same way we want them to deal fairly with us.

Life’s Lesson

Never be too quick to judge another person’s situation and never say “That could never happen to me.” The road of life has many twists and turns and sometimes the most unexpected things happen. No one is immune from life’s problems so show empathy for other because you just never know when you might need theirs.

Hang in There

Smile, be happy, laugh a lot,
Don’t shed another tear;
A wonderful life is waiting for you,
So face it without fear.
There’ll be problems to solve, hurdles to cross,
Work hard and know you can cope.
With God at your side, Him as your guide,
Each day will bring new hope.
Days will pass by and turn into years,
The ache in your heart soon will heal;
Keep your faith and know that God always cares,
So tackle each new day with zeal.
Courage my friend, and trust be with you,
Accomplish each task with a grin;
Hang in there, you will make it I know,
Remember your God, you have him.

Fables

Fables are often tales with life lessons that can guide us in our everyday life. As a young child I remember reading a lot of them. I am going to share one of my favorite one with you.

 The Lion on the Mouse

A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws.

A timid little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in her fright and haste to get away, ran across the Lion’s nose.

Roused from his nap, the Lion laid his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill her.

“Spare me!” begged the poor Mouse. “Please let me go and some day I will surely repay you.”

The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go.

Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the Lion was caught in the toils of a hunter’s net.

Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net.

Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free.

“You laughed when I said I would repay you,” said the Mouse. “Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion.”

The Moral Is: Never hesitate to help someone in need because the day may come when you may need help too.

Anecdote of the Week

The Whole World Stinks

Wise men and philosophers throughout the ages have disagreed on many things, but many are in unanimous agreement on one point: “We become what we think about.” Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “A man is what he thinks about all day long.” The Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius put it this way: “A man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.” In the Bible we find: “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

One Sunday afternoon, a cranky grandfather was visiting his family. As he lay down to take a nap, his grandson decided to have a little fun by putting Limburger cheese on Grandfather’s mustache. Soon, grandpa awoke with a snort and charged out of the bedroom saying, “This room stinks.” Through the house he went, finding every room smelling the same. Desperately he made his way outside only to find that “the whole world stinks!”

So it is when we fill our minds with negativism. Everything we experience and everybody we encounter will carry the scent we hold in our mind.

Anecdote of the Week

Blurred Vision

A businessman was highly critical of his competitors’ storefront windows. “Why, they are the dirtiest windows in town,” he claimed. Fellow business people grew tired of the man’s continual criticism and nitpicking comments about the windows. One day over coffee, the businessman carried the subject just too far. Before leaving, a fellow store owner suggested the man get his own windows washed. He followed the advice, and the next day at coffee, he exclaimed, “I can’t believe it. As soon as I washed my windows, my competitor must have cleaned his too. You should see them shine.”

Confucius once declared, “Don’t complain about the snow on your neighbor’s roof when your own doorstep is unclean.”

The moral of the story is don’t focus on the fault of others to the point where you can’t see your own faults.

Relationships

How Well do You Know Him? Image result for free clipart images of women

Sometime women will get in  serious relationships without know much about the men. This can leave a woman at a disadvantage because sometimes the man is either married or he is involved in another relationship.

Before you get too deeply involved with him get to know as much about him as you possibly can. Your life and your future is not something that you should take chances with. Find out where he lives and what kind of person he is in his community, does he have a bad reputation or is he a respectful citizen. When starting a relationship take it, get to know something about him and then decide if this is the person you want to invest your time and energy in.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
Thomas Jefferson

Be Thankful

Be thankful you don’t  already have everything you desire.  If  you did, what would there to look forward to?

Be thankful you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn

Be thankful for difficult times.  During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you the opportunity for improvement.

Be thankful for your mistakes.  They teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you are tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are thankful for the setbacks.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

If I Had My Life to Live Over   By Erma Bombeck

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.

I would have burnt the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in the storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over for dinner even if  the carpet was stained or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled upon a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worry about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil, or guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished ever moment and realize that the wonderment growing inside of me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, ”Later.  Now go and get washed up for dinner.”

There would have been more ”I love you’s.”  More ”I’m sorry’s.”

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute, look at it and really see it, live it and never give it back.

The man who makes a success of an important venture never wails for the crowd. He strikes out for himself. It takes nerve, it takes a great lot of grit; but the man that succeeds has both. Anyone can fail. The public admires the man who has enough confidence in himself to take a chance. These chances are the main things after all. The man who tries to succeed must expect to be criticized. Nothing important was ever done but the greater number consulted previously doubted the possibility. Success is the accomplishment of that which most people think can’t be done.
C. V. White

Look not mournfully into the past, it comes not back again. Wisely improve the present, it is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.– Albert Camus

“If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway…
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.”
― Kent M. Keith

“Your friend is the man who knows all about you, and still likes you.”
