Parents Step Up

One of the things plaguing society today is poor parenting. Too many children are growing up without role models they can emulate. The weakness of our men in regard to being responsible and showing moral and mental strength have resulted in many single parent homes where raising the children is left solely on the women. Yes we have weak women too because we have single parent homes with fathers playing both roles. However overall the number of single female households way outnumber the men. This is a clear indication that as parents our women are way stronger than our men.

Too many men seem to suffer from the Georgie Porgie syndrome. It is all sweet and dandy in the relationship until a child come into the picture then like scared little boys they run away. Weak people are always seeking the easy way out of a situation and for many men and some women turning their backs on their responsibilities is the easy way.

Every child needs at least one strong parent. So if you are that strong parent in your child or children’s life be proud and do your best to raise them right. For all you struggling single mothers, stay strong. At times it will get rough but hold on. Children grow up and someday you will look back with pride on a job well done.  To all the weak men who are still running, grow up, be a man. A strong man or woman never turn their backs on their children. Only the weak ones do.

Unite and Fight Abuse Against Women

Abuse of women is a form of human rights violation that affects women just about every where in the world.  Ironically one of the thing which contributes to   abuse is the lack of unity among women and the fact that in some societies women actually take part in abusing other women.  In places such as India and Pakistan mother-in-laws and sister-in-laws often beat and torture a new bride if they are not satisfied with the dowry that the family receives.  There is no unity among the sisterhood and they see nothing wrong with hurting one of their kind.

In countries where Female Genital Mutilation is practiced, it is often the women who carry out this gruesome operation.  In the Cameroon and other places that practice breast ironing it is the women who hurt their daughters and inflict physical as well as psychological scars.  Women disfigure and hurt their daughters in what they say is an attempt to protect them from rape and harassment by men.  These women fail to grasp the understanding that what they are doing is just another form of abuse.  It is a no win situation for many young girls; if the men don’t hurt them, their mothers will.

One of the biggest obstacle in eliminating abuse against women worldwide is the fact that in many countries women have been conditioned to accept abuse as a part of life.  Women suffer abuse in forced marriages and do nothing  to protect their daughters from experiencing the same fate.  So the vicious cycle of abuse is allowed to continue.  For many young girls there is no escape, no way out.  There is no one to stand up for them and no one to protect them.

The change must start with women taking responsibility for protecting their daughters instead of hurting them.  Women must unity in the fight for equal rights for women. Young girls must no longer be denied the right to an education and they should not be forced into child marriages for which they are not prepared physically, mentally or emotionally.  Women must understand that abuse of any form is not acceptable.

Happy Mother’s Day

Words are not quite enough to say thank you to Mothers for all the sacrifices that they make. A mother’s love for her child without question is the most important love of all. Happy Mother’s Day to each and every Mother.

Relationships are Important

Treat your relationship as if it is important. When you enter into a relationship and decide to share your life with another person it is a big thing.

Most of us when we are about to make an important decision like buying a house, a car, a piece of land or making an investment we do due diligence to make sure we are making the right choice and the right decision. Yet we trust our lives to others without giving it a care or thought. If you think deeply enough we can all agree that our lives are more important than material things.

Relationships are important. We must take the time to find out who we are getting involved with before we go in too deep.

Domestic Violence Awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Let us take a moment to reflect on the women who have lost their lives to domestic violence. Most of us know at least one person who was a victim of domestic violence.

As I reflect, a former classmate immediately comes to mind. She was a sweet beautiful soul who lost her life in her early twenties. She was in a relationship and broke up with the guy. Her ex got back in contact with her and asked her to meet him to talk things over; they had a child together.

Naively she went with him to a hotel room where her forced her to drink poison and later checked out leaving her dead body behind. This promising young woman’s life ended before it even began. She was the last person I expected to die that way. Her ex was charged and convicted for her murder.

As you reflect think of anyone know who is presently in an abusive relationship and encourage them to seek help.

Walk Away from Abuse

Don’t stay in an abusive relationship hoping that things will get better. Don’t invest your time in an abusive relationship hoping that he will change. Don’t live your life in misery hoping someday he will love and treat you right. If you are not happy in a relationship then the relationship doesn’t matter…walk away.
