Word of the Day…LOVE

Most News Headlines these days begin on a negative note. I urge everyone in 2016 to stay away from the negativity that surrounds us and begin each day with a positive word.

Today’s word is LOVE. The lack of LOVE is one of the biggest problem in the world. Let us begin to show more LOVE in our homes, in our schools, and the wider society at large. Let us embrace LOVE. Let us treat one another with LOVE. Let us interact with one another today with LOVE.

God’s Wife

An eye witness account from New York City, on a cold day in December, some years ago: A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.

A lady approached the young boy and said, ‘My, but you’re in such deep thought staring in that window!’

‘I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,’ was the boy’s reply.

The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.

She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.

By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks… Placing a pair upon the boy’s feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes..

She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him… She patted him on the head and said, ‘No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.’

As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her.

‘Are you God’s wife?’

The Greatest Danger on Earth comes From Man

How terrible it is that we have this wonderful world given to us and the freedom to choose between good and bad and so often we choose the latter. A part of the Pope’s message that still rings in my head is when he said the real danger in the world comes from man. We are blessed with the ability to choose to live in peace and harmony with one another yet we choose war. We build weapons of mass destruction and we slaughter each other. We abuse, condemn and reject one another and we choose hate over love. It is time for us to turn away from evil, turn away from hate, stop slaughtering each other and know that we are one people, all a part of the human race. We must reject hate and war and treat each other with acceptance and love.

Pope Francis Visits New York

Thousands of New Yorkers lined the streets to get a glimpse of Pope Francis and there were excited cheers from people everywhere he went. The message he brought us was one of love, unity, equality and acceptance.

He delivered a powerful speech to the United Nations General Assembly. He spoke about the abuse of power and about those more powerful countries that lend money to poorer countries with stringent measures that keep those countries in poverty. He spoke about those cast off by society who live on what is discarded by others and suffer the most from abuse of the environment.

He noted that the environment was not ours to abuse much less to destroy and touched on the topic of man creating weapons of mass destruction. “In wars and conflict there are individuals who weep, suffer and die,” he said. He did not stop there but also spoke about human trafficking, the sale of body parts and the sexual exploitation of little girls and boys. Every subject he touched had something to do with us as individuals and our environment. The thing I hope everyone who listened to that speech took note of is these words that ring so true -The real danger in the world comes from man – what are we going to do about it? Continue down the path of destruction, inflicting pain on one another or are we going to change?

Porcupines And The Coldest Winter Ever

Author Unknown

It was the coldest winter ever, and many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions even though they shared their heat with each other.

After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one from the other to stop being wounded.

As they did this, they began to die… alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. This way they learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationship with their companion, but the most important part of it, was the heat that came from the others that enabled them to survive

We might not get along all the time but no man stands alone and we need one another.

Life

Life is more than what we see

It’s little steps to eternity.

All we are is counted and stored

In God’s great heart that is often ignored.

Gifted with talents from His own hand,

And given free will the way he planned,

We are sent forth but not sent alone

But are given an angel of our very own…

Who guides us and guards us each passing day

To help us do rightly and always to pray.

We seem to become what the world sees and knows.

God sees more – Is it Him that we chose?
