PRAYING FOR ICE CREAM

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, “God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen.”

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, “That’s what’s wrong with this country. Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never! “Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, “Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?”

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, “I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer.” “Really?” my son asked.

“Cross my heart.” Said the old man! Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), “Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.”
Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already.

Sweet Release

Dear Lord I thank Thee for this day

And for Thy tender care

I come to Thee on bended knee

And call to Thee in prayer.

Dear Lord I thank Thee for this day

And for my gracious friends;

I look around at those I love

With joy that never ends.

Dear Lord I thank Thee for this day;

Come fill me with Thy peace;

Oh, hold me in Thy gentle hand,

And grant me sweet release.

A Positive Disposition

A little girl walked daily to and from school. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trip to school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning.

The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school, and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.

Following the roar of thunder, lightning, through the sky and full of concern, the mother quickly got in her car and drove along the route to her child’s school.

As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly, each with the little girl stopping, looking up and smiling.

Finally, the mother called over to her child and asked, “What are you doing?”

The child answered, smiling, “God just keeps taking pictures of me.”

God’s Wife

An eye witness account from New York City, on a cold day in December, some years ago: A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.

A lady approached the young boy and said, ‘My, but you’re in such deep thought staring in that window!’

‘I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,’ was the boy’s reply.

The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.

She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.

By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks… Placing a pair upon the boy’s feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes..

She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him… She patted him on the head and said, ‘No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.’

As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her.

‘Are you God’s wife?’

POEM

Remember That God Cares

When tempest-tossed and full of hurt

And life is hard to bear;

When nothing seems to satisfy,

Remember that God cares.

When you’re fed up with life itself-

Yes, of the whole affair –

When feeling sad an unworthy,

Remember that God cares.

Reach out when it is hardest to,

When you want to give up,

For that’s the time you need Him most,

When heartache fills your cup

He will never leave you comfortless,

We’re promised in His word,

So don’t hesitate to seek Him –

His help you are ensured.

And when the time comes once again

That sunshine fills your days,

Give thanks to Him who helped you through

And sent those golden rays.

LORD, TEACH US

Author  ~Kathleen Boehm~

Thank You God for Everything

Thank you for the golden days’

When life is free from strain.

Thank you for the darker days

That have a thread of pain.

For all the pain you give to me

Makes me kneel in prayer

To You who made the universe

And know my every care.

I find that when I bend the knee,

It’s then my will bends too,

To Your great will that knows what’s best

And cares if dreams come true.

When my will is in tune with Yours,

My life becomes a song

That’s sung in two-part harmony

And angels sing along.

Wet Pants
Author unknown

A nine-year-old was kid sitting at his desk when suddenly there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It’s never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they’ll never speak to him again as long as he lives.

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, “Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I’m dead meat”

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy’s lap. The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, “Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!”

Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym short to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else – Susie.

She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. “You’ve done enough, you klutz!”

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

Susie whispers back, “I wet my pants once too.”

God sometimes answers prayers in a mysterious way.

Thought for Today

We all have issues, we all face problems at one time or another.  How we deal with them make all the difference. If we take a defeatist approach then we have already lost the battle. Today take a positive approach. Say no matter what comes my way, I will not give in, I will not quit, and I will overcome.
