Love Poem

If you Choose to Fall in Love

A Writer

If you choose to fall in love,
Fall in love with a writer,
but know you will live in the pages
of a poem, linger in the words of a song
be engraved in the ink of a plot
twisting you fate and heart
into a tempestuous knot.
If you choose to fall in love,
fall in love with a writer.
One who will hand you the world,
drawn and painted in metaphors
of a troubled mind, where
nothing is simple, not even a line.
If you choose to fall in love,
fall in love with a writer-
your life will never be the same.
They’ll weave stories of yesterday,
in the webs of your hair
breathe the sky of the morning,
lure you to their lair.
So, if you choose to fall in love
fall in love with a writer.
One who truer will never be;
fall in love with a writer…
with a writer like me. (Author Unknown)

Amazing Dreams

Last night I had the most amazing dream. I was in the middle of the road and a big passenger bus was coming straight at me. There was no escape. The bus hit me, but amazingly I was not hurt and I was still standing.

What happened next was absolutely incredible. I lifted this huge bus and threw it over an embankment. I watched it go over, turned around and saw a large body of water. I stood there panicking, wondering how I would get across, when astonishing the water slowly dried up leaving dry land for me to walk.

Have ever had a dream that was incredibly amazing? Feel free to share.

Writing Dialogue

How Easy is it?

I must confess that when I just started writing I struggled with writing dialogue. I realized this was something I had to work on. When writing dialogue the writing should reflect the tone of the character. One has to craft in a way that it does not become monotonous.

In trying to not keep repeating words such as, “said or replied” do not go overboard with alternative words so your dialogue sounds unnatural. Don’t use the words: barked, growled, shouted, or hissed in a conversation where they seem out of place. In fact people don’t bark, hiss, or growl.

When it doubt read the dialogue aloud and see if it sounds natural. Another thing to pay close attention to, is where you put your quotation marks and full stops.

Your dialogue should reflect the tone and mood of your characters.

Can Someone Unlearn Hate?

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”  Nelson Mandela

This quote by Nelson Mandela is relevant to what is happening in society today. It is hard to fathom why someone would hate another person because his or her skin color is different. Sadly, people do.

Look at these two little girls. Aren’t they both beautiful? Why should we love one and hate the other. And why should we teach innocent children to hate each other. It is easier to love than to unlearn hate, so teach children to love and they will grow into adults who harbor less hate.

A Brand New Week

If you are one of those who suffer from the Monday blues I hope you have shaken it off by now. Don’t worry before you know it Friday will be here again. Have a great week!

Writing Imagery

Why it is Important

The use of imagery is very important in writing. Incorporating the five senses of seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling and touching help to make your story come alive in the reader’s mind. You can draw them out of their world into your story with imagery. Take a look at the paragraph below.

“When we got to the river, Pete and I were in for a big surprise. The calm water we had waded through earlier was now a raging torrent, murky with mud and sediments rushing from upstream.  A feeling of helplessness gripped me as I gazed over the water to the bank on the other side. There was no way we could to get across.” (from Broken Trust)

From the use of imagery you are able to visualize this couple standing on the bank of a river unable to cross.

By using imagery you can make your readers more engaged in the story.

Are Black Males Endangered Species

Is Equality Feasible

Throughout history inequality has always existed and one race of people hold themselves superior to another. However does this whole concept stem from scientific evidence or just plain stupidity?  The color of one’s skin does not define a man. All men are created the same. One race of people do not possess superior brains or body organs that another do not possess. To say the goods is better because the packaging is different shows ignorance and stupidity.

Ignorant and stupid people we can live with. However when these people are so driven by hate of skin color that a person is hurt or killed just for walking while being black we have a very serious problem. Most serial killers are white males, does this mean every time we look into the face of a white man we see a potential serial killer? There are black men who break the law and yes they commit crimes but does that mean every black man is a criminal?

While we cannot change a person’s thinking and make a stupid person smart those who take the oath to protect must do so without prejudice. They must see people not in terms of skin color but as human beings. They must stop looking through biased lens where they see a white man as a decent citizen and the black man a potential criminal just by looking at their skin color. If you give a mad man a loaded gun a catastrophe is likely to happen. Presently we have power given to biased perhaps even racist law enforcers and catastrophes are taking place.

The killing of young unharmed black male must stop. Law enforcer acting like thugs and beating up on black men must stop. The policy of shoot first and ask question after must stop. Lead by example. There is no need to kill a man unless your own life is in danger. Do not abuse the power you are given, when you do so it makes you no better than the criminals. This is for all law enforcers irrespective of skin color for the black police officer is just as quick to beat up on his own as the white one is. People are people and we must move forward by accepting and respecting one another. Too many black males have already lost their lives unnecessarily. Let good judgement and fairness prevail. Let there be equal rights and justice for all.

I wrote this article six years ago.  Since then nothing much has changed and it is just as relevant now as it was back then.
