The Cure For Hate

Mankind search for the cure for diseases but I say wouldn’t it be great if we found the cure for hate. It is not a disease yet it is so contagious. It rips apart families and lives with a vengeance. Hate knows no compassion. It knows no sense of right or wrong. It creates sadness and pain, it take lives. Those who inflict grief on others because of hate do not seem to understand that every time you take the life of another you do something wrong.

I wish there was a pill those who hate could take to make their hatred go away. I wish there was a vaccine that could give immunity to hate. Wives, mothers, sisters, brothers, men and women at sometime or another have felt the sting of hate. Hate causes mankind to build weapons of destruction and hate forces them to war. They fight and kill each other not realizing that the answer for harmony is love.

Some are so busy hating they after a while they lack the capacity to love. They spew out hate and love diminishes until all they have left is hate. So they treat others the only way they know…with hate! If we could have a no hate day just one day when every man on earth would treat each other with love maybe then mankind would understand the what the world need most is love. Yes I know I am dreaming but it is a nice dream.

Dare to Hope

We all have dreams we dare to hope
In life, when faced with disappointments we have to cope.
We must not give up on dreams or accept defeat
Neither must we lose sight of hope.
When trials come hold on steadfast,
Though the storms rages and flood waters rise high
Never let go hold on to faith and dare to hope,
That someday, someway we will have a better world.

Equality

Give me a world without hate and prejudice
Give me a world where respect for life,
Takes priority over everything else.
Give me a world where people are treated equally.
The sun does not shine on a selected few,
Nor does the rain fall only  for some.
We all come into this world the same way
And when we depart we will all go six feet under.
While we share the same planet and breathe the same air
Let us be mindful of one another.

Race Equality

“Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned, everywhere is war and until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation, until the color of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes. And until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race, there is war. And until that day, the dream of lasting peace, world citizenship, rule of international morality, will remain but a fleeting illusion to be pursued, but never attained… now everywhere is war.

These words of  Haile Selassie written years ago still rings true today. You could say the more things change the more they remain the same. We cannot tell people what to think but if you have a job to protect then you must do so impartially  and not allow your personal prejudices to cloud your judgement. The justice system is broken and the way forward is to address the cracks in the system so that the laws apply to everyone equally. It is the system that allows a lot of the injustice because those involved know they will not be held accountable for their actions. We need to fix the justice system.

Eric Garner Grand Jury Verdict

The verdict in the Eric Garner case is a disappointing one. Sadly I did not have enough faith in the justice system to believe the outcome would have been any different. Whether we want to believe it or not there is a serious race issue in America.
The question is how can we fix it. There is something wrong with a system which allows law enforcers to take the lives of black men and know they have nothing to worry about and no one to answer to.
I feel for the family of Eric Garner. I understand their pain. It is never easy to lose a loved one especially in the manner in which Garner lost his life. White lives are not the only ones that matter, black lives matter too.

Thanksgiving

Streets filled with snow and slush and long delays at the airports, is not the Thanksgiving most people anticipated. However we can’t fight mother nature we just have to comply. For all those who are driving to Thanksgiving dinner, be careful on the wet roads to avoid accidents.

Time spent with family and friends giving thanks is a memorable occasion. I know many of you are looking forward to that roast turkey, ham and other goodies.

Ferguson Burning After Decision

The Grand Jury made their decision and while it might not be a popular one what took place afterwards is not the answer. In fact it is just validating the stereo type situation in which blacks are viewed. There were no winners last night and there was nothing gained. A young man lost his life and the verdict did not seem like justice. I understand the anger and frustration but violence is not the answer.

The people of Ferguson must move forward. Michael Brown is dead and burning down Ferguson will not bring him back. Instead of tearing down let’s build something in the memory of this young man. Do not create  situations that will give police officers a reason to kill again. As last night clearly shows in this war they will win.

Instead of fighting let us educate our young men. Let the memory of Michael Brown serve as a catalyst for change. Let them strive for the day when Ferguson Police Department instead of having fifty white officer to three blacks will have and equal amount of blacks and whites. Let us strive for the day when a man’s life is important irrespective of his skin color.

Peace

Let it not be said that we are common criminals
all just uneducated, liars, and thieves,
Let us be remembered as the ones who fought for peace.
Blood dries on cold hard pavement
and a mother weeps, for her son is gone
Still body not another breath will breathe
Gone too soon and yet we will hear the sound
again of another mother weeping,
when this same scene is once again repeated.
Can there be peace in the absence of justice.
For the sake of humanity
we have to find a common ground
We must put aside hatred, hostility and division
We must unite and have peace.

Live Life as I see Fit

If I choose to live my life as I see fit
who will I offend?
If I choose not to live as society dictates
Will I be making a great mistake?
Should I do what others want,
simply comply because it is the norm?
It is my life so why should I
allow others make the rules?
Why must we all be like puppets
dancing to the tune of others?

Crying Wolf

Don’t Cry Wolf

Be careful of always crying wolf lest when the wolves finally arrive no one will believe you and you will have to fight them off alone. Don’t complain about problems you do not really have or situations that don’t exist. Don’t prey on others kindness or take advantage of the generous. For the day may come when you will need help and no one will be willing to help you.
