Word of the Day – GREED

GREED is one of the evils that have taken over the world. GREED has taken over many aspect of the health sector. The GREED of drug companies has caused the price of lifesaving drugs to skyrocket so that many who need it cannot afford it. GREED has taken over many charities, people collect money for a cause and then use it live lavish lifestyles. Many have lost all sense of morality because of GREED.

Boycott Turing Pharmaceuticals

Say No to the hike in Price of Daraprim Tablets

For years drug companies have gotten away with overpricing life saving drugs and making the lives of users more stressful financially than it ought to be. It is now time for us to come together and take a stand against unscrupulous drugs companies like TURING PHARMACEUTICALS.

The recent hike in the price of the Drug DARAPRIM should serve as a wakeup call for all of us. This drug has been on the market since 1953. It is currently used by AIDS and Cancer patients. For 62 years this drug was affordable however now that has changed. In August Turing Pharmaceuticals acquired exclusive rights to the drug and the price has increased from $13.50 to $750.00 per tablet. Reason for this increase… GREED. This increase by Turing Pharmaceuticals is obnoxious and disgusting and it makes my stomach turn to know that they should want to profit this much from the plight of the most medically vulnerable among us.

We have to take a stand we cannot remain passive. We must lobby for measures to be put in place to protect patients from continued exploitation. If Turing Pharmaceuticals is allowed to get away with this price hike more companies will do the same. They have no moral conscience, no empathy for the patients battling complex diseases. Greed has clouded their judgment and stripped them of all humanity and moral obligation to act like decent human beings. Let us take a stand against Turing Pharmaceuticals. Boycott the sale of DARAPRIM. Let us stand in solidarity with AIDS and Cancer patients.

Inspirational Story

The Seven Jars

Long ago there lived in Northern India a merchant whose wife had died and who went daily from his lonely house in the foothills to the town below, for buying and selling. “I must have a holiday,” he said to himself one day, and he began to climb up into the hills to enjoy the view and the sounds of the forest. In the hot afternoon, feeling sleepy he looked for a quiet place for a nap. Soon he discovered a kind of hole in a cliff, actually a cave; so he lay down in the dark interior and slept. Waking up, he felt there was something with him, in the cave.

Crawling back inside he found a large earthen jar. Then another, and another and another — there were seven jars there, altogether! Now the merchant wondered if he dared to open them. There was no sound of anyone about, still it seemed a bit risky. But curiosity, as you know, is powerful indeed. He found he could lift the lid of the first jar. What do you know! It seemed to be full of gold coins. So were the second, third, fourth and fifth. Under the lid of the sixth jar he found an aged piece of paper.
On it was written, “Finder, beware!! The seven jars of gold are yours, but there is a curse. No one who takes them with him can leave the curse behind.” Now, next to curiosity, greed is the most powerful urge. Our merchant overjoyed with his luck, wasted no time in borrowing a two-wheeled cart to carry the jars of gold to his house. It was exhausting and next to impossible. Bulky and hard to lift, they had to be taken two by two; in the dark of night he lugged them to his house. On the last trip, with the seventh jar alone thankfully the load was lighter, and he noticed nothing.

“Let me count the coins,” he thought, “and see how great my fortune is.”

But when that seventh jar was opened he found it was only half-full. “What!” he cried, “I was promised seven jars!” He had thrown the note away and forgotten about the curse. The merchant was overcome and obsessed by a spirit of grasping and greed. Now, in the town, he went at his money-making hand and fist; it was all he lived for. “I must fill the seventh jar with gold,”: this was his constant thought. Yet the more he put into the jar, strangely the more it remained half-full. He lived some years more, but never did he enjoy spending the gold he had found, because it was never

There are so many individuals like this man, no matter how much they have they are never satisfied.

Thought for Today

Greed has taken over the world and sometimes those who have are the ones who are never satisfied. Greed is having a negative impact on the health sector. We have cases of doctors diagnosing people with cancer who do not have the disease and subjecting them the expensive cancer treatments, destroying the health of these people for personal gain. Today I read of another case of a doctor diagnosing patients with MS who don’t the disease and subjecting them to expensive treatments simply because of greed. Where is the love for humanity. Is money more important than someone’s life?

Selfishness, Greed and Hatred

Selfishness, Hatred and Greed are like diseases spreading across the world. Man kill one another on a daily basis as if life is meaningless and they have the right to decide who dies and who lives. How can one take the most precious gift given to another and think that it’s okay?  There is nothing heroic about being a murderer. In fact many are cowards who find power only when they have a gun in their hand and even then they remain cowards because they kill and then hide.

Selfishness and greed have allowed some to become insensitive to the plight of others. The extent of how greed have taken over have manifested itself in that Detroit Doctor Farid Fata who was accused of intentionally misdiagnosing over 500 people and subjecting them to cancer treatment although they did not have the disease. According to court records, he submitted approximately $225 million in claims to Medicare over six years. He pleaded guilty to 13 counts of Medicare fraud.

The sad truth is that he is not the only one guilty of this practice. Cancer treatment has become a multi-million dollar industry, which might be part of the reason that we have not yet found a cure. The powers that be are more interested in coming up with expensive treatments that will continue to keep their bank accounts fat.  They are not interested in finding a cure and anyone holding their breath waiting to hear the announcement of a cure would sooner die from lack of air. If they find one believe me we will never hear about it. In fact there are many biologic drugs currently on the market which are known to increase the risk of cancer and yet we wonder why cancer cases continue to rise.

Any chance to find a cure for cancer will only come about when doctors go back to being doctors and less like businessmen and woman and patients are viewed as people and less like commodities. But lets face it who is going to be brave enough to stand up to these big drug companies and institutions who are making billions from cancer treatment? Let’s just say I am not holding my breath…

Of Pastor and Seeds

Old Liza was such a miser
She refused to part with a cent.
She went to church without her purse
and got the pastor incensed.
He spoke of greed, he spoke of weeds,
He spoke about those who came to church
and left without planting a seed.
