Facebook Hoax That People Fall For

Face book has changed their privacy settings once more! Due to the new, “graph app” anyone on face book (including other countries) can see your pictures, likes, & comments. The next 2 weeks I will be posting this, and please once you have done it please post DONE!!! Those of you who do not keep my information from going…… out to the public, I will have to DELETE YOU! I want to stay PRIVATELY connected with you. I post shots of family that I don’t want strangers to have access to! This happens when friends click “like” or “comment”…automatically, their friends would see our posts, too. Unfortunately, we cannot change this setting by ourselves because Face book configured it that way. PLEASE place your mouse over my name above (DO NOT CLICK), a window will appear, now move the mouse on “FRIENDS” (also without clicking), then down to “settings”, click here and a list will appear. REMOVE the CHECK on “LIFE EVENTS and “COMMENTS & LIKES”. By doing this, my activity among my friends and family will no longer become public. Now, copy & paste this on your wall. Once I see this posted on your page, I will do the same. Thank You.

This is one of the myths that appears on Facebook from time to time.  I think one of the reason I don’t fall for this is that I don’t like being told what to do especially when that request comes with a threat.  Another reason is,  all Face book account come with a privacy setting for a reason; it gives you the power to determine who sees your posts.

Keep in mind the fact that nothing about Face book is private.  If there are things that you do not want people to know or pics you don’t want people to see do not put it on Face book period!  Not all your Face book friends may actually be your friend, so unless you have just a couple of trusted friends in your circle things will get around.  Besides if it actually worked like that, do you think it a good idea to depend on others to keep the things you post private?  Think about it.

Facebook Posts That People Fall For

I got this photograph from Facebook, as the caption says: First you press LIKE  then in the comment section write the number 5 and see – I think that should be –  what happens. To date it has gotten over two million likes.  It is unbelievable, the number of people who fell for this. What is even more mind-boggling is that up to a few minutes ago people were still writing 5.  Yes there are people among us who actually thought clicking Like and writing 5  will have some effect on the image.  It makes you wonder if people don’t really think.  Some of the comments were very amusing, more entertaining than the pic.

Solange Attack Jay Z

The latest video taking the internet by storm is that of Beyonce sister Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator while Beyonce watched . The video is not clear and the faces obscured but evidently they are the people in the clip. Now everyone is dying to know what might have transpired to bring about this incident. I believe this is going to be one of those best kept secrets. Of the three people I am taking a guess that only one would talk and she won’t. So you all stop digging and write it off as the unsolved case of ‘The Mystery in the Elevator.’  Now let’s move on,  Next!

Sterling’s Fall From Grace

My first reaction when I heard about Donald Sterling’s racist comments was – well this appears to be a private conversation between him and his girlfriend; however when I listened to the recorded conversation in its entirety I understood why everyone was so upset.

As someone who is of African descent myself I found that the manner in which Sterling spoke about black people was both insulting and condescending. Here is a man who is still living in the plantation era; one who still believe that whites are superior to blacks and because of this superiority white and blacks cannot publicly be friends.

It is interesting to note that Sterling does not see himself as being racist. In his mind history has branded blacks as minorities and it will remain that way forever; they are not to be associated with in public. Sterling is an educated man but clearly education is no cure for stupidity.

Skin color does not define a man. It does not make you any better than the other person. We are all made up the same way there is no difference! Sadly there are people like Sterling still around and while we cannot change the way they feel we can stand together and refuse to support racism or anyone who is racist.

Bad New Addicts

This sick fascination in listening to and giving bad publicity to others is something of a disease and thousands if not millions are stricken  with it.  It is almost like an addiction.  These bad news addicts get high from just hearing that something bad has happened to someone especially if it is someone they don’t like.  Most are not interested in the truth; if it is something bad and it is in the news that is all that matters.

I have been watching with interest over the last few days the way the media have not lost an opportunity to put the spotlight on Justin Bieber.  His arrest in Miami made headlines everywhere yet no one except for TMZ has taken the time to investigate and report that Bieber may have been falsely accused.  There is no evidence to support the police claims of drag racing and not only that his blood alcohol levels at the time of his arrest was .014, the legal limit is .08.  If one should go by those figures it means the charge of DUI is also false.

This raises a very serious question is it okay for the police to arrest someone on false charges, and by turning a blind eye to this are we not creating a precedent for other youths to be treated in a likewise manner?  Investigative journalism is now a thing of the past.  Everyone is interested in presenting sensational news and the truth suffers but hey the bad news addicts are happy!

Do Women Have to Dress Half-naked to be Noticed?

On Sunday I got the chance to see Beyonce and Jay Z perform together.  The song was ‘Drunk in Love’.  As I watched the performance I could not help wondering why women feel they have to appear half-naked when they are performing.

Jay Z came on stage looking all fine and dressed like he was on his way to a black tie event.  Beyonce on the other hand was dressed as if she was going to perform in a strip club.  She apparently was drunk in love but as far as I could see Jay Z was plain sober in love.

If he had come on stage wearing a T-shirt and a pair of boxers it would have been more of a level playing field.  My thing is if your man is coming on stage all dressed up and looking fine then you need to cover your ass up.

Sadly Beyonce is not the only female performer who feels she has to show skin and leave little to the imagination.  Rihanna never misses an opportunity to expose herself nor does Miley Cyrus and of course there are others.

We have heard the old adage ‘Sex Sells’.  Do these women feel they are not good enough or talented enough and therefore need to expose themselves in order to be noticed?  Do they see themselves merely as sex objects and therefore feel the  need to dress accordingly?

Justin Bieber Arrested

Justin Bieber is once again making the headlines and not in a very good way. This talented teen is rapidly making his way down a path of self-destruction. Earlier this month his house police searched his house. They were looking for evidence after allegations by a neighbor that Bieber had egged his house.  During the search drugs were found in Bieber’s home.  Police arrested his friend Xavier Smith aka Lil Za in connection with the drug find.
Did the star give himself a reality check after all this bad publicity?  Apparently Justin did not because he is back in the news. He was arrested this morning in Miami Beach Florida for DUI and drag racing.  He reportedly confessed that he had consumed alcohol, prescription drug and marijuana.
Justin Bieber is clearly a teenager who is out of control and in need of some tough love to get him back on track.  One can only hope he gets the help counselling that he obviously need to  get his life together.  I wish him all the best.

Nelson Mandela

Sleep Well Nelson Mandela. You have left an indelible mark in this world. You did not just exist, you were an inspiration. In the face of oppression and discrimination you stood resolute in your bid for equality. You had your freedom taken away because you dared to fight against apartheid. After twenty-seven years you emerged from those prison walls with your fighting spirit intact. You were beaten down but not broken. You didn’t just talk the talk you walked the walk. You had a game plan and you executed it well. We will remember you as one of the greatest and selfless man to ever walk the face of this earth. Your memory will forever live on. May your soul Rest In Peace.

The Simon Cowell Affair

A lot of people tend to idolize celebrities and put them on pedestals.  To me they are no more special than the rest of us except for the fact that they have more money and are able to live a more luxurious lifestyle.  This however does not necessarily  make their lives more fulfilling or happier than the regular man in the street and it certainly does not make them any smarter.

One would have thought that if Simon was going to have an affair with his friend’s wife they both would have been more careful about getting caught.  It is quite evident that people will be people regardless of social standing and they will make the same mistakes as anyone else.

Even if a man might try to turn a blind eye to the fact that his wife is being unfaithful, he cannot ignore it when a baby comes into the picture and the other man is the father.  To make matters even worse that man was once his very good friend.  That is the ultimate betrayal.

Will Simon stick around and help to raise this child?  Only time will tell.  However there is one thing we can be sure about and that is the press is going to have a field day with this one.  This story is not going to fade away anytime soon.  In fact they will be counting down the months until this child is born and then the drama will continue.  This story is  not about to die away anytime soon.

Media Sending Wrong Messages to Young Girls

We are living in an era where the media give more attention to things that are negative rather than issues that will have positive influences on our young girls.

Many young girls work hard at bettering their lives.  Some have worked and put themselves through colleges and universities and excel at what they do.  Are they given and recognition for their achievements?  Very few are.  After all what is interesting about getting a degree?  What is juicy about having a reputable profession?  That is not good enough to make the headlines.  It is not important to put out there so that other young girls can have hope and the understanding that if they too work hard they can achieve great things and have a successful and meaningful career.

On the other hand a girl can make a pornographic video and rise to fame.  She exposes her body for the world to see and for this she is rewarded.  She is made to feel like a celebrity.  She might even get her own reality TV show in recognition of her great achievement.  What a world we are living in.  She strips her self and perform sexual acts for the world to see,  the world loves it and she rises to fame and stardom.

The media is so hypocritical.  Kristin Stewart kissed another man and the media went after her like scavengers in pursuit of dead meat.  It was just one stupid kiss, one momentarily lapse in judgement and it was as if she had committed the ultimate crime.  Would it have been more acceptable if she had made a porn video?

We are sending the wrong messages to our young girls and then we have the nerve to turn around and criticize them when they try to follow the example of the ones we idolize and make stars.  The stories of great achievements by our young women will rarely be heard, but the porn stars will make the headlines every-time.

To all the good girls out there do not be discouraged.  Continue to do greatness even if it is not recognized.  Live your lives in such a manner that your children will be proud to call you mom and see you as their role models.  Continue to live exemplary lives and be proud of who you are.
