A Lover’s Remorse

He drank in the sweet scent of her perfume,
And momentarily it chased away his gloom.
He was afraid to look into her eyes,
Afraid that he would not be able to accept the truth.

He had hurt you bad, there was no excuse,
He could tell her the other girl meant nothing,
But she would never understand.
He had betrayed her trust,
He had broken that sacred bond,
And she couldn’t see beyond that.

Yet he hopes she will forgive him,
This male egoistic part of him,
That felt it as okay to cheat with another woman.
Stolen waters may taste sweet at first,
but it leaves a bitter after taste.
