Hate

 Stop Hating

Hate is like a cancer and it is destroying the world. It is toxic and spreads like wildfire.
Hate creates wars among nations. It is the leading cause of division, inequality and injustice.
People hate one another for insignificant and stupid reasons. People are hated for their political or religious beliefs. They are hated because of their race and skin color. People are hated for their sexual orientation and even because of their body weight.

We are all unique. No two person are exactly the same not even identical twins. Yet our uniqueness is a major problem because people hate one another for just being different. The world is an immense place and there is room  for all us. We all have a right to be here. We may not love everyone but we can at least be accepting of one another and try to live in peace.

The Blind Bus Passenger

The passengers on the bus watched sympathetically as the attractive young woman with the white cane made her way carefully up the steps. She paid the driver, and using her hands to feel the location of the seats, walked down the aisle and found the seat he’d told her was empty. Then she settled in, placed her briefcase on her lap and rested her cane against her leg. It had been a year since Susan, thirty-four, became blind. Due to a medical misdiagnosis she had been rendered sightless, and she was suddenly thrown into a world of darkness, anger, frustration and self-pity.

Once a fiercely independent woman, Susan now felt condemned by this terrible twist of fate to become a powerless, helpless burden on everyone around her. “How could this have happened to me?” she would plead, her heart knotted with anger. But no matter how much she cried or ranted or prayed, she knew the painful truth: her sight was never going to return. A cloud of depression hung over Susan’s once optimistic spirit. Just getting through each day was an exercise in frustration and exhaustion. And all she had to cling to was her husband Mark.

Mark was an Air Force officer and he loved Susan with all his heart. When she first lost her sight, he watched her sink into despair and was determined to help his wife gain the strength and confidence she needed to become independent again. Mark’s military background had trained him well to deal with sensitive situations, and yet he knew this was the most difficult battle he would ever face. Finally, Susan felt ready to return to her job, but how would she get there? She used to take the bus, but was now too frightened to get around the city by herself.

Mark volunteered to drive her to work each day, even though they worked at opposite ends of the city. At first, this comforted Susan and fulfilled Mark’s need to protect his sightless wife who was so insecure about performing the slightest task. Soon, however, Mark realized that this arrangement wasn’t working – it was hectic, and costly. Susan is going to have to start taking the bus again, he admitted to himself. But just the thought of mentioning it to her made him cringe. She was still so fragile, so angry. How would she react? Just as Mark predicted, Susan was horrified at the idea of taking the bus again. “I’m blind!” she responded bitterly. “How am I supposed to know where I’m going? I feel like you’re abandoning me.” Mark’s heart broke to hear these words, but he knew what had to be done. He promised Susan that each morning and evening he would ride the bus with her, for as long as it took, until she got the hang of it. And that is exactly what happened.

For two solid weeks, Mark, military uniform and all, accompanied Susan to and from work each day. He taught her how to rely on her other senses especially her hearing, to determine where she was and how to adapt to her new environment. He helped her befriend the bus drivers who could watch out for her and save her a seat. He made her laugh, even on those not-so-good days when she would trip exiting the bus, or drop her briefcase. Each morning they made the journey together, and Mark would take a cab back to his office. Although this routine was even more costly and exhausting than the previous one, Mark knew it was only a matter of time before Susan would be able to ride the bus on her own. He believed in her, in the Susan he used to know before she’d lost her sight, who wasn’t afraid of any challenge and who would never, ever quit. Finally, Susan decided that she was ready to try the trip on her own.

Monday morning arrived, and before she left, she threw her arms around Mark, her temporary bus riding companion, her husband, and her best friend. Her eyes filled with tears of gratitude for his loyalty, his patience and his love. She said goodbye, and for the first time, they went their separate ways. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Each day on her own went perfectly, and Susan had never felt better. She was doing it! She was going to work all by herself!

On Friday morning, Susan took the bus as usual. As she was paying  her fare to exit the bus, the driver said, “Boy, I sure envy you.” Susan wasn’t sure if the driver was speaking to her or not. After all who on earth would ever envy a blind woman who had struggled just to find the courage to live the past year? Curious she asked the driver, “Why do you say that you envy me?” The driver responded, “It must feel so good to be taken care of and protected like you are.” Susan had no idea what the driver was talking about, and asked again, “What do you mean?” The driver answered, “You know, every morning for the past week, a fine looking gentleman in a military uniform has been standing across the corner watching you when you get off the bus. He makes sure you cross the street safely and he watches you until you enter your office building. Then he blows you a kiss, and gives you a little salute and walks away. You are one lucky lady.”

Tears of happiness poured down Susan’s cheeks. For although she couldn’t physically see him, she had always felt Mark’s presence. She was lucky, so lucky, for he had given her a gift more powerful than sight, a gift she didn’t need to see to believe – the gift of love that can bring light where there had been darkness.

Wouldn’t it be Great

Wouldn’t it be great to have a world free from war
Where people spend time building bridges of friendship instead of tearing them apart?
Wouldn’t it be great if people loved and cared for one another
Instead of turning on each other like monsters unleashed from hell?
Wouldn’t it be great if more money was spent on finding cure for diseases and less on building weapons of destruction and death?
Wouldn’t it be great to have a world where the color of one’s skin didn’t matter, where prejudice did not exist and equality was something practiced everywhere?

Inspirational Poem

Things may not always be as bad as we think it is. Sometimes we must take the time to evaluate the situation before jumping to conclusion.

Handwriting on The Wall

A weary mother returned from the store,
Lugging groceries through the kitchen door.
Awaiting her arrival was her 8 year old son,
Anxious to relate what his younger brother had done.
While I was out playing and Dad was on a call,
T.J. took his crayons and wrote on the wall
It’s on the new paper you just hung in the den.
I told him you’d be mad at having to do it again.
She let out a moan and furrowed her brow,
Where is your little brother right now?
She emptied her arms and with a purposeful stride,
She marched to his closet where he had gone to hide.
She called his full name as she entered his room
He trembled with fear–he knew that meant doom
For the next ten minutes, she ranted and raved
About the expensive wallpaper and how she had saved.
Lamenting all the work it would take to repair,
She condemned his actions and total lack of care.
The more she scolded, the madder she got,
Then stomped from his room, totally distraught
She headed for the den to confirm her fears.
When she saw the wall, her eyes flooded with tears.
The message she read pierced her soul with a dart.
It said, I love Mommy, surrounded by a heart.
Well, the wallpaper remained, just as she found it,
With an empty picture frame hung to surround it.
A reminder to her, and indeed to all,
Take time to read the handwriting on the wall.

Things To Ponder

Are You Saved?

Has anyone ever said to you – “Are you saved?” People often ask that question. Many puffed up by their own self-righteousness will say “I am glad I am not in the world” – meaning they are not living a Godless life as they believe others are doing. Others will say “I am saved” – but are they really saved?

My take on this issue may be a little controversial but I believe that if it was up to man to decide whether or not they are saved from the wrath of hell there would be no need for Christ to return to judge mankind. There would be no need for a day of reckoning.

Many idea of Christianity is getting baptized and attending church religiously. In their minds as long as they love God and serve him that is enough. It is no wonder that so many fail the greatest test of all – that of loving one another. We declare we love a God that we cannot see and hate the people around us that we can see. Even his words have no bearing on us because Christ said “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Many ignore and neglect the poor in their church communities while the pastors grow rich. They refuse the beggar a dollar while giving pastors hundreds. Pastors often justify the fact that they live in million dollar homes by saying it is God’s desire for them to have wealth. But didn’t He say ‘By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made? I do not believe it is God’s will for man to have wealth by acquiring money in His name and then using it for personal enrichment.

There are pastors who own private planes which cost millions of dollars their excuse is the need to travel in order to spread the word of God. Show me a ministry whose purpose is not just teaching the word of God but using the money they collect in the name of God to help others and there you will see a ministry that is actually doing the will of God.

Let us try to do his will so we are not left standing at the gates and hear the words depart from me for I was hungry, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. We must change our focus from giving to those who already have and instead help  those in need.

What we must question is not whether or not we are saved but rather have we done enough to enter the Kingdom of God.

A Useless Life

A farmer got so old that he couldn’t work the fields anymore. So he would spend the day just sitting on the porch. His son, still working the farm, would look up from time to time and see his father sitting there. “He’s of no use any more,” the son thought to himself, “he doesn’t do anything!”

One day the son got so frustrated by this, that he built a wood coffin, dragged it over to the porch, and told his father to get in. Without saying anything, the father climbed inside. After closing the lid, the son dragged the coffin to the edge of the farm where there was a high cliff. As he approached the drop, he heard a light tapping on the lid from inside the coffin.

He opened it up. Still lying there peacefully, the father looked up at his son. “I know you are going to throw me over the cliff, but before you do, may I suggest something?”

“What is it?” replied the son.

“Throw me over the cliff, if you like,” said the father, “but save this good wood coffin… Your children might need to use it.”

The moral of this story is be careful how you treat others.  What you do to someone else the same thing might happen to you!

A Thought For Today

Do not be discouraged if all your
Prayers are not answered. In all things
God knows best. He might not give you
All you ask for but He will give you
All you need.

Man Marries Dog

We are living in a world of over seven billion people and yet it seems that not everyone is able to or chooses to find a companion among their own kind. This incident happened back in 2010 but I only recently saw it and thought I would share it with you. This Australian man married his dog, a five-year old Labrador retriever. Thirty of his friends  attended the ceremony. He reportedly told them that it was not sexual, just pure love. I can understand a man loving his dog but isn’t marrying the animal taking it a little too far?

Sand and Stone

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: “TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.”

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one, who had been slapped, got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After the friend recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: “TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.”

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?”

The other friend replied: “When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”
