A Thought for Today

“The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy;
it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for.
We can cure physical diseases with medicine,
but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love.
There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread
but there are many more dying for a little love.
The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty –
it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality.
There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.”

Infuse your life with action,
don’t wait for it to happen
Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high but by doing what you can to make grace happen…yourself, right now, right down here on earth.

A SIMPLE PRAYER
Oh Lord, what simple prayers we pray,
Giving You thanks and glory every day.
Our prayers like misty clouds ascend,
Seeking wisdom at each days end.
May our prayers be worthy in Your precious sight
As we struggle daily to do what is right.
Many we never give in to deep despair
As You hear oh Lord, our simple prayer.

In spite of recent mass shootings there are people of the opinion that there is no need for tougher gun laws. In fact some are of the opinion that more people should own guns. It is evident from what we see happening that the more guns in society the more likely it is that there will be shootings.
In many of these shootings the shooter’s mental state is brought into question after the tragedy has unready unfolded, which brings me to this question – Why are guns being sold to mentally ill individuals and who should be held accountable? Too many times we say R.I.P. when it could have been avoided. I am tired of hearing after people are killed that the shooter had mental issues. A gun in the hand of a mentally ill person is a disaster waiting to happen. Stop the sale of guns to these individuals.
