Break Up With The Loser In You

So many people are walking around disillusioned. So many embrace the defeatist mentality and relish the idea of being victims of society. People blame government, blame society, blame their parents….blame everyone but themselves for their failures. Guys walk around with their pants below their ass and wonder why no one will employ them. They call foul, play the race card and refuse to accept that they are partially responsible for their failures. Let go of negative attitudes and negative thinking. Break up with the loser in you and embrace a positive attitude. You have to talk the talk, walk the walk and look the part.

PRAYING FOR ICE CREAM

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, “God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen.”

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, “That’s what’s wrong with this country. Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never! “Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, “Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?”

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, “I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer.” “Really?” my son asked.

“Cross my heart.” Said the old man! Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), “Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.”
Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already.

True Love

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80’s arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, ‘And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?’

He smiled as he patted my hand and said,

She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.”

Did Carson Lie About His Past?

CNN is deliberately trying to portray Ben Carson as a liar. In an article they published CNN implied that Ben Carson lied about stories of his past violent behavior. Now I can’t understand why Carson would lie unless he wants to depict an image other than the mild, impassive one that we know. Makes no sense, but there you have it. One might ask why CNN is digging into Carson’s past; do they have a hidden agenda. Of course they do. It is a known fact that CNN is backing Hilary Clinton. The article is designed to put doubt in the minds of voters and for them to question Carson’s credibility. It is basically saying how can you trust a man who makes up stories and lies about himself?

INSPIRATIONAL STORY

The Homeless Man

It was a cold winter’s day that Sunday. The parking lot to the church was filling up quickly. I noticed as I got out of my car that fellow church members were whispering among themselves as they walked to the church. As I got closer, I saw a man leaned up against the wall outside the church. He was almost lying down as if he was asleep.

He had on a long trench coat that was almost in shreds, and a hat topped his head, pulled down so you could not see his face. He wore shoes that looked 30 years old, too small for his feet, with holes all over them. His toes stuck out.

I assumed this man was homeless and asleep, so I walked on by through the doors of the church. We all gathered for fellowship for a few minutes, and someone brought up the man lying outside. People snickered and gossiped, but no one bothered to ask him to come in, including me.

A few moments later, church began. We all waited for the preacher to take his place and to give us the Word, when the doors to the church opened. In came the homeless man walking down the aisle with his head down.

People gasped and whispered and made faces. He made his way down the aisle and up onto the pulpit. He took off his hat and coat. My heart sank. There stood our preacher. . .he was the “homeless man.”

No one said a word.

The preacher took his Bible and laid it on the stand. “Folks, I don’t think I have to tell you what I am preaching about today.”

Inspirational Poem

I got up early one morning
And rushed right into the day
I had so much to accomplish
That I didn’t have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me
And heavier came each task
“Why doesn’t God help me?” I wondered
He answered, “You didn’t ask.”

I wanted to see joy and beauty
But the day toiled on, grey and bleak
I wondered why God didn’t show me
He said, “But you didn’t seek.”

I tried to come into God’s presence
I used all my keys at the lock
God gently and lovingly chided
“My child, you didn’t knock.”

I woke up early this morning
And paused before entering the day
I had so much to accomplish
That I had to take time to pray.

Thought for Today

“Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive,

I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it.

I am going to use all my energies to develop myself,

to expand my heart out to others;

to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

I am going to have kind thoughts towards others,

I am not going to get angry or think badly about others.

I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”

Breast Cancer Screening

The new guidelines by the American Cancer Society for the screening of breast cancer have received mixed reviews. Some women believe that early screening saved their lives. In fact it is known that women are getting breast cancer before age thirty. I know of one individual who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 28. She died before her thirtieth birthday leaving two young children. Maybe early detection could have saved her…

However I am also aware that many women have received false cancer diagnosis and some have gone through unnecessary treatment. Cancer is a scary thing and just the thought that they may have cancer is enough for some women to want to do something about it. We have to maintain a balance so we are not doing more harm to women rather than saving them. I believe however that women who have higher risk of getting cancer should continue to get early screening and not wait until age 45.
