Alone by the Sea

The cool, crisp air was as salty as her tears,

The waves came in washing away the sand

from under her feet and taking with it her dreams.

Deep, dark shadows formed as the sun whispered goodbye,

The tears dried up slowly yet her eyes would not smile.

Deep pools of darkness equates the sadness in her eyes,

It is over the night wind whispered,

It is over the seagulls cried,

It is over the waves echoed,

It is time to say goodbye.

Solange Attack Jay Z

The latest video taking the internet by storm is that of Beyonce sister Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator while Beyonce watched . The video is not clear and the faces obscured but evidently they are the people in the clip. Now everyone is dying to know what might have transpired to bring about this incident. I believe this is going to be one of those best kept secrets. Of the three people I am taking a guess that only one would talk and she won’t. So you all stop digging and write it off as the unsolved case of ‘The Mystery in the Elevator.’  Now let’s move on,  Next!

Missing Nigerian Girls

This video shows some of the Nigerian girls who were abducted almost a month ago. For the families of the missing girls this is some consolation, if these are indeed the missing girls. It means they are still alive. In the video Boko Haram claims that the girls have converted to Islam. He is demanding the release of a number of prisoners in exchange for their freedom.

Happy Mother’s Day

A Very Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers around the world biological or otherwise. To the fathers who are raising their children singlehandedly I salute you too. As we celebrate this momentous occasion let us remember the Nigerian mother’s whose children were viciously snatched from them. For them today is a vivid reminder that there children are not where they should be. It is hard for a mother not to know whether or not her child is safe.  Prayers can move mountains so let us keep them in our prayers today.

A Useless Life

A farmer got so old that he couldn’t work the fields anymore. So he would spend the day just sitting on the porch. His son, still working the farm, would look up from time to time and see his father sitting there. “He’s of no use any more,” the son thought to himself, “he doesn’t do anything!”

One day the son got so frustrated by this, that he built a wood coffin, dragged it over to the porch, and told his father to get in. Without saying anything, the father climbed inside. After closing the lid, the son dragged the coffin to the edge of the farm where there was a high cliff. As he approached the drop, he heard a light tapping on the lid from inside the coffin.

He opened it up. Still lying there peacefully, the father looked up at his son. “I know you are going to throw me over the cliff, but before you do, may I suggest something?”

“What is it?” replied the son.

“Throw me over the cliff, if you like,” said the father, “but save this good wood coffin… Your children might need to use it.”

The moral of this story is be careful how you treat others.  What you do to someone else the same thing might happen to you!

A Thought for Today

If life makes you weary stop and take a rest.
Smell the roses and enjoy the sunshine.
It is pointless to wear yourself out
and not enjoy the simple pleasures along the way
 on the journey of life.

Kidnapped Nigerian girls

Another day has passed, another night has come and for many families in Nigeria it offers them no comfort and they will find no rest as they wait for another morning to dawn still not knowing where their daughters are. It has been more than three weeks since over two hundred Nigerian girls were abducted from their school. It is not clear how much effort the Government has made to find the missing girls and they are turning to the world for support to find their children. Do not let these mothers pleas fall on deaf ears. Do not ignore their tears. It is time for the world to take a stand on atrocities carried out against women. There is too much talk and too little action and not many are held accountable. Tonight let us all say a word of prayer for the safe return of the girls.

Homeless Man Gets a Home

This video is a confirmation that there are still good people in this world who with selfless acts of kindness are able to make a difference in the lives of others. The world would be so much of a better place if more people take the time to care

know the road was never easy,

But they made it through because they

never gave up.  They made it because

they didn’t quit.

Mother Beats Child for Posting Inappropriate Photos on Facebook

This video of a Trinidadian mother beating her twelve-year-old daughter went viral. It got divided reactions. Some thought the beating was well deserved others saw it as child abuse. I have watched this video a few times myself and have formed my opinion based on what I saw.

The child in question did not strike me as one that was overly disrespectful, the beating went for what I consider as way too long and at no time did she get aggressive or try to disrespect her mother. She did not strike me as a bad child. The things children see impact greatly on the things they in turn do. They see all these stars posing like strippers and people glorify them and they think maybe I can look that good too.

The mother said she spoke to the child several times about her behavior and that is sometimes the error that parents make. First of all let me clarify cursing a child is not talking to that child and instead of talking to the child it is better to talk with the child in that way actual dialogue takes place between you and the child. Another point I want to make is if you are going to give a child a computer and internet access you must be prepared to monitor what that child is doing. If the child has a Facebook page you need to have a Facebook page as well so you can monitor what is going on.

This mother is clearly concerned about her daughter getting pregnant at an early age but if she believes beating the crap out of her daughter is going to prevent that she is sadly mistaken. What she can do is use the internet to her advantage. Show her daughter videos of teenagers struggling to raise children on their own because they made the wrong choices. Education and not fear is what is going to make a difference.
