Do not constantly ask what others can do for you. Sometimes you have to ask yourself…what can I do to help someone else. Acts of kindness go a far way.

Women’s Rights
There is a debate going on about abortion and many have mixed views about it. I do believe that each child that is conceived should be given the chance to experience life. However in certain circumstances such as rape and incest I believe women should have the right to choose what to do. We don’t know the mental and emotional well being of women caught up in these situations. Therefore no one should have the right to make that decision for them. What are your thoughts on this issue?
Today’s Quote
Enjoyment and peace of mind come when you realize that you are in charge of your happiness. Too often we give other people power over our lives. Too often we sell ourselves short, not realizing our strength, not understanding that life can bend us but we will not be broken.”

HereThe Boulder in the Road
In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.

Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded.
As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand.
Too often people complain about situations and yet make no effort to do anything about it
Domestic Violence…When will it end?
Domestic violence is a global issue. It affects women all over the world and despite efforts many women lose their lives to domestic violence each year. According to a UN report over 50,000 women lost their lives to intimate partners or family members in 2018. This tells us that a solution is nowhere in sight. A part of the problem is that the approach to domestic violence is somewhat like trying to put a bandaid on a wound that need stitches. Many people wait until their situation becomes unbearable before they seek help.
We must begin to take a more proactive approach to the fight against domestic violence. We must take domestic violence awareness into the classrooms. We have to start educating our young people of the ills of domestic violence before they engage in relationships. We have to teach our girls as well as boys that abuse is not an acceptable behavior in a relationship.
Women alone cannot bring about change. The police alone are not going to bring about change. The government alone cannot bring about change. Everyone has to get involved. We have to get more men on board. Many are against domestic violence. We need them to speak to other men about this issue. We also need to talk about in church and in the workplace. Let us rewrite the script. Abuse in a relationship is not okay. Let us with a collective voice say NO to domestic abuse.

Parrot Arrested

This may sound hilarious but it is true. A parrot was taken into custody in Brazil after it warned it drug dealers owners of a police raid. It is reported that as he police depended on the drug den the bird cried “Mama the police,” in Portuguese. A couple were arrested in the raid. However cops were unable to get another word out of the parrot. It is obviously a loyal bird!
Tragedy in the Sky
Last Sunday an Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed near Addis Ababa killing all of the 157 people on board. They were only six minutes into the flight when the pilot reported problem with the plane and requested to return to the airport. Unfortunately they never made it back.

Since the accident some countries have joined a ban of the Boeing Max 8, among them Britain and Australia. My prayers go out to the families of the victims. May their souls Rest In Peace.
The Jigsaw Puzzle
I suppose by now you would have heard about the Jussie Smollett alleged attack. There seems to be so many twist and turns to the case and so many things that we don’t know. The more we learn about this story, the more it seems confusing.

Jussie has maintained his innocence and while we may be all quick to condemn him sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. The story coming from the brothers is conflicting. One report said he paid them to carry out the act another said the money he paid was for training. So what is the true story. Did Jussie piss someone off and this is an elaborate plan of theirs to destroy his career?
I am trying to rationalize and make sense of this because so far nothing is making sense except Jussie seems guilty. However what if he isn’t? As I said before the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. What is the true story?
Reading Challenge
My reading challenge for 2019 is off to a great start. I started with THE FORGOTTEN HOURS by Katrin Schumann and completed it in three days. I promised to give you a review and here is a brief one.
I gave this book a three star because it did not deliver as I expected it to. The flow of the story was a bit slow. I kept waiting for that exciting moment that never came. The overall theme of the story is clear and relevant in today’s world were so many women have to deal with sexual assaults. The flow would have been better without the use both past and present tense to get the ideas across. The characters were also not well developed, however it was an interesting read.

In my next post I will tell you the current book I am reading.
Government Shutdown
It is now more than two weeks since the partial government shutdown and like in most situations the ones who played no part in it are those most affected. I am all for border security, most of us are but surely there has to be a better way than to hold the people of this country to ransom.
This obsession with a wall seems to be more of a desire to satisfy Trump’s ego than it is about securing the borders. While the power play continues and the government fail to come to a resolution hard working taxpayers must worry about how they are going to pay their bills. How is this okay? Isn’t ironic that politicians usually say they work for the people and yet in so many situations the people have no say in what they do?
