Caitlyn Jenner Award

We live in a hypocritical world where celebrities are revered and praised and the ordinary men and women go unrecognized. Caitlyn Jenner receiving an award for courage is a total mockery and nothing more than a publicity stunt. An award for courage should be given to a person who had to defy the odds in the face of adversity and emerge victorious. This was not the case of Jenner. He had a strong support system and millions cheering him on and not only that he had the promise of his own Reality TV Show for his troubles.

I have said it before and I will say it again. The real hero is the first person who made this transition at a time when it was taboo. That person paved the way for others. The true heroes are transgender children who have had to endure ridicule and nonacceptance and yet stood bravely in the face of adversity to be their true selves, that takes courage. The true heroes are the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. Heroes are the men who will battle fires to save lives at the risk of suffering injuries themselves. My point is that there are so many others deserving of the ESPY Award for Courage. Unfortunately they are not celebrities and therefore will never be recognized.

  1. The word hero doesn’t mean anything anymore. The guy who sank in the winning shot in a basketball match is called a hero. ‘veI always thought that a person who jumps into the raging water to save a drowning man is a hero, not the guy who dunks the ball into the ring. The problem is , the word is used to describe just about anything. Even the word ” awesome” has lost it’s real meaning.
