Do Women Have to Dress Half-naked to be Noticed?

On Sunday I got the chance to see Beyonce and Jay Z perform together.  The song was ‘Drunk in Love’.  As I watched the performance I could not help wondering why women feel they have to appear half-naked when they are performing.

Jay Z came on stage looking all fine and dressed like he was on his way to a black tie event.  Beyonce on the other hand was dressed as if she was going to perform in a strip club.  She apparently was drunk in love but as far as I could see Jay Z was plain sober in love.

If he had come on stage wearing a T-shirt and a pair of boxers it would have been more of a level playing field.  My thing is if your man is coming on stage all dressed up and looking fine then you need to cover your ass up.

Sadly Beyonce is not the only female performer who feels she has to show skin and leave little to the imagination.  Rihanna never misses an opportunity to expose herself nor does Miley Cyrus and of course there are others.

We have heard the old adage ‘Sex Sells’.  Do these women feel they are not good enough or talented enough and therefore need to expose themselves in order to be noticed?  Do they see themselves merely as sex objects and therefore feel the  need to dress accordingly?

    1. Thanks for reading and for your comment. We must give credit to those women who know they don’t have to be half-naked to give great performances. Adele as you point out is one those women, thumbs up to her!

  1. This one got me thinking. It’s true — why can’t these poor women just ride on sheer talent — oh yeah, I forgot — sex sells. Too bad. I guess they feel their music won’t be heard if they aren’t half naked.

  2. It’s simply crazy. You should see some of the female artists in my country all in a craze aping these female artists from the West. Even in video clips where the men are the artists, you will see the girls half naked in funny and silly poses they think term dance steps.

    1. What is really sad is that they see nothing wrong with what they are doing. I keep wondering if this is part of the reason why men so often show disrespect for women.
