God’s Love [By Charles Clevenger ]

‘Do unto others,’ says the Golden Rule,
‘As you’d have them do unto you.’
It’s a simple rule to live by,
Day by day – the whole year through.

We all are God’s precious children,
No matter the creed, color or race.
Let our lives reflect God’s abiding love
So others will know His grace.

Don’t hide your light ‘neath a bushel,
Let it shine – for all to see.
The world is to be our parish
To extend love to humanity.

Have I done my best, I muse.
Shown clarity towards my fellowmen;
Have I used my God-given talents
To show God’s love where I can?

Don’t hide your light in the shadows,
Nor allow it to grow faint or dim.
Let it shine with all its glory –
To proclaim your love for Him.

Teaching Children Values

So much is going on in the world today. So much has changed and our societies in many instances have become much more violent. Our children are being exposed to a  lot of negative influences; on the internet, on the streets, in our schools and even in our homes.
It is our jobs as parents to raise our children to be decent upstanding citizens. This is not an easy task. It is imperative that we teach our children values. They need to understand that they are important; that their existence is no accident, they are here for a reason.
One of the most important thing we need to teach our children is to have self-respect. They also need to have respect for the lives of other people. Too many of our young people are committing crimes and taking the lives of others. They need to understand from an early age, that life is important and that it is wrong to take the life of another.

Respect for other people’s property. Sometimes little things like stealing begins from an early age. The child brings home a book or a pencil or a crayon that belongs to someone else from his or her kindergarten class; the parents see nothing wrong with the child keeping it. That is telling the child that it is okay to take something that is not his or hers and that is stealing.

We need to teach children to set high standards for themselves, to set goals and work towards them. To be always mindful of who they are. To stand up for what they believe in and more importantly to believe in themselves even if others don’t.

Monday Night Raw

This Monday Night on Raw Edge gave John Cena a much-needed pep talk.  But with the odds stacked against Cena, one wonders what kind of motivation he will have going into Extreme Rules.  We are now presented with a John Cena who has gone soft and maybe so; but  replacing him with Brock Lesnar, is this what Monday Night Raw really needs?

Brock Lesnar is being portrayed as a tough, cold, ruthless kind of person, who has no qualms about knocking down weaker, defenseless people like Josh Mathews, who was merely doing his job.  His action was further legitimized with the signing of the contract for the match between him and Cena at Extreme Rules, when all his demands were met.  By all accounts it seems this guy will be running the show and he can beat upon any body he wants to because he wont be fined.  He even wants the name of the show to be changed to Monday Night Raw Starring Brock Lesnar.  Is this what Raw needs anarchy?  Telling Brock Lesnar he can do whatever he wants to do is giving him too much power  which he is going to abuse.  Laurinaitis fined  Sheamus  five hundred thousand dollars for hitting a referee and in the same breath he is telling Lesnar he won’t be fined for anything.  So what does this mean for the referees and reporters like Josh?  I have a feeling this one is going to come back to bite Laurinaitis where it hurts most.

The signing of the contracts was one of the most boring one I have ever witnessed.  Cena surprised me, he didn’t seem to have any fight in him.  In fact he seemed quite bored with the whole thing.  One cannot blame him because he knows that just like at Wrestlemania he is going to continue in his role as a loser at Extreme Rules.  Wow!   Wrestling is really getting boring!

Well lets take a look at some of the matches.  Kofi Kingston VS Chris Jericho.  In this match Jericho showed his dominance, however Kofi did well, putting up a good fight.  He delivered the Boom Drop, them went for the Trouble in Paradise, but Jericho countered with a Codebreaker then brought on The Walls of Jericho, forcing Kingston to tap out.   Jericho’s obsession with Punk and his family continues.  He brought Punk a gift which turns out to be a basket of alcoholic beverages which he takes on bottle from and re-gifted to Josh Mathews.

Lord Tensai once again was not given much of a competition.  He gets in the ring knock R Truth around, the match is over and they do it every time, putting him in these matches….boring!

Alberto Del Rio and Cody Rhodes VS The Great Khali and The Big Show

The Great Khali was dominant in the early part of the match.  Then things turned around and Big Show took a beating from Del Rio and Cody Rhodes both of whom focused on the Big Show’s knee.  Big Show fought his way out and got back in the match.  Alberto Del Rio true to form took the easy way out abandoning his partner.  Big Show gives Cody a Choke Slam.  Show and Khali wins the match.

Nikki Bella VS Beth Phoenix for the WWE Divas Championship

This match was somewhat disappointing.  Beth Pheonix somehow injured her ankle during the match.  This went to Nikki’s advantage and she won the match taking the title from Beth.

Chris Jericho made claims that Punk was drunk and that he should do a sobriety test which should he fail, he would be stripped of his title.  Once again it is up to Teddy Long to see that this happens.  Punk comes out pretending to be drunk.  He is unable to say the alphabet backwards or walk a straight line.  Really now, who is thinking up all this crap?  Punk fails the test.  Jericho demands that he be given the championship title.  Punks hands over the belt but ask to be given another chance.  Turns out he was just pulling one on Jericho, for he was quite sober, able to walk a straight line and repeat the alphabet backwards.  He then went after Jericho, chasing him from the ring.

The match between Sheamus and Mark Henry was very short with Daniel Bryan who was acting as guest referee giving on of the fastest three counts ever to give Henry the win.

The Best You Can Be {By Clay Harrison}

We can strive for perfection

But we’re destined to fail,

It’s an impossible dream

in search of a grail,

But we must have a dream,

Be the best we can be,

For character is measured

By our efforts, you see,

You cannot cross an ocean

Until you set sail,

And you can’t win a race,

If  you think you will fail.

We won’t win every race,

That’s easy to see,

But you’re a winner by being

The best you can be.

Friday Night Smackdown

Friday Night Smackdown was anything but exciting.  Should we be surprised; the man who claims to be Mr Excitement doesn’t have a clue what the word ‘Excitement’ means.  The Daniel Bryan / AJ drama needs to come to an end and someone rewrite the script.  There is nothing cool about him playing the jerk of a boyfriend who continues to publicly humiliate his ex-girlfriend.  AJ plays the part of a girl who lacks both self-respect and self-esteem.  She makes women in general look stupid!  Can’t figure out where Natalya comes  in the whole scenario, but more power to her for not retaliating when AJ tried to vent her frustration on her.

The Cody Rhodes and Big Show feud continues.  Cody interference in the match between the Big Show and Alberto Del Rio resulted in Del Rio picking up the win.  Give Del Rio credit, he is a great wrestler; but is it me or does it appear that most of the matches he has won there is always some outside interference?

Ryback is being portrayed as a tough wrestler.  The problem with this picture is that his opponents are always the guys he can demolish with one blow.  So far he has not been given any real competition.  Who wants to pay to see a match which is only going to last a few seconds and you know who the winner is going to be even before the bell rings.  Come on that’s boring!

The tag team match between Usos and Darren Young and Titus O’Neil was a well contested match.  Both Darren and Titus show that they are ready for Friday Night Smackdown.  They worked well together and won the match against the Usos.

The match of the night was a six man tag team match seeing The Great Khali, Randy Orton and Sheamus on one team and Cody Rhodes, Daniel Bryan and Mark Henry on the other.  The Great Khali was taken out of the equation by Cody Rhodes before the match even got off to a start.  The Great Khali wrestling days may be coming to a close as it is obvious is knees don’t hold up that well.  Cody’s celebration was cut short when the Big Show whom he had kicked in the head earlier, causing him to lose his match, came out to replace Khali.   It was a back and forth match which finally ended with Randy giving Mark Henry the RKO to pick up the win for his team.

First I want to say thank you to all of you who have been following my blogs, taking the time out to read my post and for your comments.  I would like you to know that I really do appreciate it.

For the next couple of posts my focus will be on parenting and I would appreciate your thoughts on the subject.

How many of us can say we are great parents?  Well maybe most of us will be modest and say that we do try.  To simply say parenting is not an easy job, is an understatement.  It really is not and like any other job it has its good days and bad.  Parenting skills are learned, we are not born with them.  You cannot just walk into a book shop, purchase a book on parenting, try to adapt to the written words and become a great parent.  It doesn’t happen that way.

Each child is an individual with his or her own special needs that has to be met.   Each child has his or her own likes and dislikes and rightly so even if they are twins, they have different personalities.  The key role of parents therefore is to get to know your child or children as individuals.  In the same way each pregnancy for a woman is different; in the same way no two children are going to be exactly alike.

One of the most important thing we as parents have to do is to have an open line of communication with our children from the moment they start learning to talk.  I know it isn’t always easy and sometimes we feel we just don’t have the time but we also have to learn to be better listeners.  Encourage them to express their feelings,.  Listen to their chatter even if it doesn’t make any sense!

Proverbs 23 V 29-35

Who has anguish?  Who has sorrow?  Who is always complaining?  Who has unnecessary bruises?  Who has bloodshot eyes?  It is the one who spends long hours in the tavern, trying out new drinks?  Don’t gaze at the wine, see how red it is, how it sparkle in the cup, how smoothly it goes down.  For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper.  You will see hallucinations, and you will say crazy things.  You will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea clinging to a swaying mast.  And you will say “They hit me, but I didn’t feel it.  I didn’t even know when they beat me up.  When will I wake up so I can go for another drink?

Monday Night Raw

I truly apologize for being late with my recap of Monday Night Raw.  However this is my views on how things went down.

This Monday Raw came to us from England.  The show was all in all an average performance with John Laurinaitis continuing to show his dictatorship leadership style.  The return of Brock Lesnar to the WWE and his backing from the General Manager makes one wonder if Laurinaitis plan to make Lesnar the new face of Raw, replacing Cena.

In the match C. M. Punk VS Mark Henry; at the start of the match one could not help but wonder if Punk’s mind was in the right place after all his mental torment from Chris Jericho.  However Punk seemed up to the task.  It was a good match, ending with Punk jumping from the top rope and driving a chair into Mark Henry’s chest to pick up the win and retain his WWE Championship.  Jericho of course appeared on screen immediately after the match to announce that he will get another shot at Punk’s title at Extreme Rules.  Jericho will get his re-match in a Chicago Street Fight.  He showed a clip of Punk entering and leaving a pub, which the champion brushed off stating he was just out with a few local friends.

Santino Marella continued his winning streak once again beating David Otunga; who seems to be doing a better job of showing off muscles and acting like John Laurinaitis water boy, than winning matches.  In the meantime Santino is still The United States Champion.

The Match Kane VS Zack Ryder went down the way anyone would expect it to.  Ryder is obviously no match for The Big Red Monster.  Kane knocked Ryder out with a chokeslam before the bell even rung.

Daniel Bryan was not pleased to see Kofi Kingston talking to his ex girlfriend AJ .  He told Kofi just because he dumped her didn’t mean it was open season.  It is confusing why AJ continues to play the role of the beautiful girl with low self-esteem, still trying to get with a guy who is a total jerk and treats her like dirt; confusing isn’t it?    Well Daniel promised Kofi that he would make him tap out it a lock which he re-named the Yes Lock.   He made good on his promised and Kofi Kingston although putting up a good fight was forced to tap out.

One thing you can say for Rosa Mendes, she knows when to cal lit quits.  She tried to get her team members who were no match for the Great Khali and the Big Show, out of harms was.  However this was not to be as they were both thrown back into the ring and double slammed by their opponents.  The result was no surprise, this was an uneven match-up to begin with.

The main event of the night was John Cena VS  a mystery opponent who not surprisingly turned out to be Lord Tensai.  There is an on going campaign to make Cena look like a loser.  Tensai has returned and  for the past couple of weeks has being showing his dominance, so who else would be the likely candidate to give Cena a whopping.  However John Cena being the charismatic, no back down, no surrender kind of individual that he is, showed that he was equal to the task.  Lord Tensai soon realized this was no walk over, in Cena he was faced with some real competition.  The match was pulsing, exciting.  The end possibly would have been great but in true Laurinaitis fashion cold water was thrown over the finish.  Cena had to look like a loser at whatever cost so Otunga was sent in to make this wish of Johnny a reality.   The distraction of course gave Lord Tensai time to spray is green stuff in Cena’s face, distorting Cena’s vision and Tensai subsequently won the match.  One cannot feeling cheated.  There is the unanswered question.  Would Lord Tensai have beaten Cena had there been no interference?

Lord Give Me Faith {By Phyllis C. Michael}

Help me walk with patience, Lord;
Help me watch and pray;
I know that You have heard my cry,
The sun will shine some day.

Help me seek your will, dear Lord,
O, keep me brave and true;
I know not what is best for me.
Send faith to see me through.

Help me walk each step with hope
Though I can’t see the light;
Lord, take my hand and lead the way;
Oh, guide me day and night!

Hour by hour; Lord give me faith,
Faith that never asks why;
Whatever is, Lord, help me say,
‘Safe in Your care I am.’
