Cancer Charity Scam

Cancer research and treatment is a multi million dollar industry. Each year various organizations collect money to help cancer patients to get treatment and to fund research. How many of these people are genuine and how much of the money raised actually go towards the cause? Not a lot it would seem.

Four charities made headlines this week in a 187 million dollar scam. They are Cancer Fund of America, Cancer Support Services, Breast Cancer Society and Children’s Cancer Fund of America. In all of these charity most of the money raised was spent on cars, college tuition, luxury cruises, dating sites membership, gym membership and jet ski outings.

There is always room for fraud where charities are concerned because there is no accountability. While there are some genuine people in fundraising a great many are in it just to enrich themselves. It is a shame and a disgrace that while cancer patients fight for their lives as they battle this disease others try to enrich themselves from their plight. Shame on all of those involved.

  1. Good evening Marva… Just wanted to thank you for shedding some light on a sensitive subject. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I knew that the financial realities would take their toll quickly on my meager budget. I contacted every non-profit that professed to help cancer patients. I heard more excuses than I thought existed… from “…we’re out of funds for your area of residence”… to “…we have funds available for certain types of cancer, but not for your type of cancer.” Although I have a life threatening and normally fatal type of cancer, not one agency offered any assistance whatsoever. Even the local cancer house, residing in a multi-million dollar facility, lavishly furnished, had nothing to offer but a few bottles of Ensure and support groups that supported nothing but their own agenda to raise more money. So… again… thank you for bringing this to light on your site…
Hope your evening is most beautiful…
    Michael

    1. Sorry to hear that you were denied the help you needed Michael. There are so many organization collecting money to help cancer patients. Unfortunately some of them are not honest and do not honor their commitments. I do hope that you will get the help you need….all the best.

  2. I am appalled at these so called “charities.” I’m sure there are more that need to be shamed. It makes me reluctant to donate to anyone other than the Salvation Army.
