Elementary School Shooting

Today is a very tragic day for the people of Newtown Connecticut as shortly after nine o’clock this morning a gunman went on a shooting spree at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.  At least twenty-six people are reported dead; there are eighteen children among them.  It is still not clear why the children were targeted.  The gun man reportedly had an argument with the principal but it is not clear if this had anything to do with the shooting.

I can only imagine the sorrow of all the parents who sent their children off to school this morning who heard of the shooting and went to the school only to find that their children are among the dead.  What can you say to console them?  What can you say to ease their pain.  We can only offer words of comfort but in times like that even that is not enough.  There will forever remain the unanswered question of why.   Why did he target helpless, innocent children?

In this season of goodwill so many families will be in mourning.  Christmas is just not the same without the children and nothing will filled the void that is left; nothing will fill that space.  I wish God’s blessing for all those who have lost a child in this shooting and I pray they will find the strength to do deal with this tragedy.

  1. My ‘why’ is, why is it still possible for people to get guns? Why won’t the President and Congress deal with this issue for once and for all? Sorry, I will never buy into the right to bear arms. I believe in the right to go to a mall or a movie, to school or just for a walk without fearing for your life. As far as I’m concerned those politicians who refuse to deal with this issue have blood on their hands; and share the guilt of all those poor, innocent murdered souls.

  2. Nothing can replace the loss of a loved one. It’s even more painful during this time of the year. May the souls of these poor kid rest in perfect peace.

Thanks for liking my latest post. It’s well appreciated.

    1. Yes today is a really tragic day. If only it was just a dream but it is reality and I can only hope and pray that all the families who lost loved ones will find the strength to get through this.

  3. To maintain world peace, it has to begin at home. The gun lobby appears too strong. What is really a right if it infringes on another right. Individual human right need to be seen in a wider social context.

  4. So tragic, the loss of innocents reverberates through all facets of society. Hopefully this will serve as a wake up call for the lawmakers but sadly none of those lost can ever be replaced.
